#OurDemocracy Health + Democracy Forum

In a healthy democracy, decisions made in Parliament should reflect the best interests of our communities. But this isn’t always the case.

For decades harmful industries – like alcohol and big tobacco – have been distorting our democracy to put their profits ahead of public health and well-being. It’s why so many health organisations experience roadblocks when advocating for much-needed and common-sense reforms.

But we can fix this. To get progress on the issues that we care about – like better health outcomes – we need a strong and healthy democracy free from corporate influence.

Join us for the #OurDemocracy Health + Democracy Forum, co-hosted by the Public Health Association of Australia, the Foundation for Alcohol Research & Education, the Australian Democracy Network, the Australian Health Promotion Association and the Human Rights Law Centre.

What: Health + Democracy Forum
When: 1:30-2:45pm AEST, (that is 1pm Central and 11:30am Western Time), Tuesday 16 May 2023
Where: Zoom, RSVP here and a link will be sent to you.

At this webinar, you’ll hear about the pervasive tactics used by harmful industries to influence policy outcomes, why a strong democracy is the key to progress, as well as how we can work together to make our democracy work for all of us, not just the powerful few.

This is an open event for any health organisations, health professionals and health advocates. Please share with your networks!
